Coming Soon to Masala

Standard

Dear Readers,

Just want to keep you up-to-date with some changes you might be seeing on this blog:

 1. Makeover!

I love my Matala theme, but I also want to move this blog in more of a traveling track, so expect multiple costume changes, concepts and even blog names before I hit on a great channel for my new concept. But no matter what, you’ll always be able to find me at http://www.misventurer.com (or theasianstation.wordpress.com).

2. Freelance Blog Posts!

As I (slowly) build my freelance portfolio to include schtuff like event coverage, slick vlogs and location reviews, you might notice less K-drama rants and squeals going on. But never fear! I am still a fangirl to the core, so I will do my best to write about my love of Asian drama and film, no matter how awesomely famous I get (Please, God)!

3. Photos and Videos!

If you haven’t already noticed, I’m going through a video phase at the moment, one that I hope will turn into a sustainable part of this blog (along with more pictures!). I will also do my best to share my slow-but-steady journey towards being a freelance media extraordinaire. My work certainly isn’t perfect, but I love experimenting, making “blooper” reels and laughing over my silly mistakes as a photographer…and I hope you’ll laugh with me!

4. Radio!

Another element I want to work on is giving everyone who reads Masala FM a little taste of the radio show I do each week. Although I haven’t quite figured out how yet, I will eventually be putting up trailers and clips from my shows for fun and hopefully to drag more listeners kicking and screaming to UIC Radio.

Kidding! 😛

That’s all I’ve got right now, but I’ll let will let you know if I think of anything else!

My first WIT Summit!

Standard

Globe-Going-300

The Women in Travel Summit, hosted by Go Girl Travel this weekend March 14-16, is not only my first, but the first ever conference for women travel bloggers!

Held in Chicago at the Palmer House Hotel, it’s going to be an awesome weekend of networking, story-swapping and advice on making money while writing a travel blog.

My dream job, right there.

Now, this blog may not focus so much on travel, but I’m hoping that with the tips from super-successful travel bloggers, I can give Masala FM a little makeover 🙂

After all, travel doesn’t have to be about leaving the country. You don’t even have to move from the couch! Some of my favorite adventures around the world have begun and ended in Bollywood films and world music and dance.

I don’t have to see the world to appreciate it!

But it would still be nice to combine what I need to do (make money) with things I really want to do (writing and travel). Who doesn’t want to earn a living doing what they love!

And that’s why I’ll be at the WIT Summit this weekend, making friends, taking names (and lots of notes) and learning how to make a career out of this weird freelance media-writer-radio-blogger mish-mash I’ve got going on.

And don’t worry! I will be documenting the whole thing for you all to enjoy.

With any luck I will even have my brand-new camera to help me out.

Check out the amazing WITSummit schedule here!

Masala FM Radio: Interview with Bollywood Groove President Ajanta Chakraborty

I’m excited about tomorrow’s show because I will have a special guest!

Ajanta Chakraborty is the president and co-founder of Bollywood Groove, my favorite Chicago Bollywood dance company. Of course, I am biased because I have worked and danced with Ajanta as well.

But I am looking forward to having her on my show and learning more about Bollywood dance and I hope you all are too! To see their site, visit www.bollygroove.com

Tune in at 6:45 p.m. tomorrow evening, Central Standard Time, to uicradio.org to hear some music that will make you want to ball balle!

And here’s a song to get you started.
